How-To Tuesday: C6 Corvette Convertible Top Replacement
Unlike the Mustang pictured above, I could not for the life of me find a C6 Corvette convertible with a torn top. It’s as if it has never happened. Evidently it’s as rare as getting a real picture of a chupacabra. Oh, and if you haven’t already guessed, this week’s How-To Tuesday article goes into step-by-step detail on how to replace the top on a C6 convertible.
Interestingly enough, I’ve had this done on my Corvette. My original top was frozen in a nice winter ice storm here in the center of the U.S., and some dummy thought he could lightly and safely tap a sheet of ice off after the car had warmed up for an extended period of time. Uh, nope. Granted I’m not driving a C6, but still, I know where this article is coming from. Hopefully for those of you driving the sixth generation, your top isn’t leaking like a sieve, like my old ’87. Hopefully, you still have nice, fairly new-ish, unworn rubber seals and gaskets, unlike me. Taking my Corvette through one of those automatic car washes would be the equivalent of taking a shower sitting down in an adjustable leather chair.
The good thing about this week’s How-To Tuesday article is that it sets the reader up quite nicely and warns you ahead of time of the difficulty factor. Meaning, there are no tricks coming along where you’ll think you can complete this in an hour on your own, with no experience. Some of the things I’ve learned while writing here have been eye opening in regards to ease, this one, not so much.
Still, you’ve got all the guidance you need to get the job done. So you can be ready, when one of these days you do run across a damaged C6 convertible top that needs replacing. Then you’ll be the first to grab a picture of the chupacabra!
