Lifelong Corvette Enthusiast Combines Parts to Build His Dream C1
The unmistakable shape of the C1 Corvette is so entrenched in our collective consciousness as a piece of Americana that each surviving example seems like a national monument. Modifying that iconic shape is not a task to be taken lightly. At this point, one might be so inclined as to equate such behavior with an act of domestic terrorism. Let’s face it: it’s hard to improve on perfection.
Corvette enthusiast Jason Flis of Nokesville, Virginia has spent more or less his entire life fascinated with cars — Corvettes in particular. After building — and even racing — late-model stock cars in his family’s shop, he struck out on his own to build hot rods and customs. With the knowledge gained, he was built his dream Corvette you see here.
Starting with a 1962 Corvette that was missing its numbers-matching drivetrain and much of the original trim, Jason set out to graft a 1957 nose section onto the 1962 body, combining his favorite C1 design elements into one car. The stock tail section was elongated, and the nose was smoothed and filled, along with much of the rest of the trim, resulting in a very clean look that resembles a design sketch brought to life.

The body sits on top of a custom-built chassis, allowing for a 2″ wheelbase extension and custom driveline mounts that accommodate a Chevrolet Performance LSX 454 V8 backed up by a 4L80E automatic. Chevrolet claims 627 horsepower stock — almost twice the output of the hottest Corvette available in 1962.
Numerous suspension modifications ensure that the new chassis can handle the upgraded power. And the interior combines modern creature comforts with classic style.
