After a Proper Restoration, the Corvette Super Sport Prototype Is Running for the First Time in Decades

The Corvette Super Sport prototype first took the stage at the New York Waldorf Astoria Auto Show in 1957. Now, a full 60 years later, it will again be shown off in tremendous fashion. But this time she’ll be taking people’s breath away at the Amelia Island Concourse d’Elegance.

The white Super Sport is an absolute stunner, with traditional Corvette cues matched to exclusive prototype features. A sculpted double windshield rounds off the front end, making the car aggressive and race-like. Meanwhile, additional aero pieces and a full body-length stripe add to the car’s overall sense of occasion.

While there are many incredible GM concept cars from this era, the Corvette Super Sport was easily one of the prettiest. And it is yet again, thanks to the car’s second owner, John Baldwin, who bought the unique car in 1996. Baldwin restored it to peak original condition, deeming it worthy for a spectacle as swank and illustrious as Amelia Island.

“We’ve been working on the ’57 Super Sport for the last few weeks and have it running nicely for the first time since the 1950s,” says Baldwin (via Corvette Blogger).
