After their father sold his beloved sports car when his family grew, the kids repaid him with an identical 1967 Corvette.
The Corvette is a special car to a lot of people, going far beyond a basic piece of transportation or even the typical sports car by forming an emotional bond with people – as well as between them. We’ve seen great examples of this time and time again over the years, as well as more than one son or daughter buying their parents a Corvette as a symbol of appreciation for putting their lives on hold to raise children. Now, we get to hear yet another heartwarming tale of fulfilling a lifelong dream, this time from Brent Farrell, who documented his own experience buying a 1967 Corvette for his parents in the video below.
Back in 1965, Farrell’s father purchased a Corvette brand new, which was his pride and joy for a while. However, he soon met the woman he would make his wife, and then along came their first child, and then another, and then Brent, but all the while the C2 stuck around as part of the family, too. But when the couple had their fourth child a couple of years later, it became glowingly clear that the family needed something a bit more practical.
Farrell’s father has spent the last 50 years reminiscing about his beloved Corvette, joking that it was the kid’s fault that he had to sell it in the first place, but all the while, the son has dreamed about buying him another one. After a long search, he found the perfect candidate – a 1967 Corvette, and all of the kids came up with a plan to present it to him at their mom’s 80th birthday. They parked it at the neighbor’s house, put a “for sale” sign on it, and when everyone rolled in, they talked about how dad had a car just like it back in his heyday.
After “letting” mom and dad sit in the 1967 Corvette, Farrell’s father went on and on about his car and how it compares to this one, and it’s pretty clear that he’s still incredibly passionate about his old ride. When the family informs him that this is, in fact, his car, it’s hard to put into words just how heartwarming his reaction is – in fact, he’s so nervous, he doesn’t even want to take it for a drive yet, though he obliges by firing the car up, at least. It’s a truly special moment not only for the family, but for those of us watching, not to mention another great example of just how deep of a bond people form with the iconic model – it’s truly a love that never goes away.
