C8 Corvette Z06 Gives Modified McLaren 600LT One Heck of a Fight

Despite being down big on power and weighing quite a bit more, this C8 Corvette Z06 manages to stay toe-to-toe with its exotic foe.

While it was built specifically to dominate tracks, the C8 Corvette Z06 has also thus far proven to be a pretty competent drag racer, too. We’ve already seen a mostly stock example crack into the 9s in the quarter-mile with a set of drag radials, while even stock-tired cars are running low-to-mid 10s with ease. YouTuber Brooks Weisblat of the Drag Times channel has thus far lined up his own C8 Corvette Z06 against all kinds of sports and exotic cars at the drag strip – most recently hanging with a Ferrari 488 Pista that cranks out around 900 horsepower. Now, Weisblat is back with another intriguing drag race, this time against a modified McLaren 600LT.

Weisblat’s C8 Corvette Z06 is mostly stock, save for an exhaust and sport cats, which means that it’s likely churning out a bit more than its factory rating of 670 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque from the somewhat old school, high-revving, naturally-aspirated 5.5-liter LT6 V8, which flows to the rear wheels via an eight-speed dual clutch gearbox. Weighing in at 3,600 pounds, the Z06 in this particular video stickered for around $150k.

In the other lane, we have the McLaren 600LT, which utilizes a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V8 that’s been tuned and fitted with an exhaust, which the owner says results in an output of around 750 horsepower. That power also flows to the rear wheels – this time via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission – though it only weighs around 3,100 pounds. However, it also costs literally twice as much as this particular Z06, too, with a price tag of $300k.

Once again, it seems as if the C8 Z06 is fighting a far superior foe, but once again, it manages to punch above its proverbial weight class yet again. As has been the case with many matchups we’ve see thus far, the Z06 jumps out to an early lead, but eventually begins to lose ground to the more powerful McLaren. Regardless, the end result is awful close, with the 600LT barely edging out the Corvette despite running a slightly slower 10.50 seconds at 131 mph versus a 10.48 at 128.

On the second run, Weisblat cuts an even better light and jumps ahead to a bigger lead, taking home the victory with a slower 10.62-second pass at 127 mph versus the McLaren’s 10.70 at 131. Unfortunately, the tie-breaker ends in disappointing fashion as Weisblat redlights while trying to beat the 600LT off the line. However, this is still an incredibly impressive result, given the fact that the Z06 is both less powerful and quite a bit heavier than its exotic, pricey foe.
