Listed as ‘GT3,’ this pair of ‘Vettes looks poised to steamroll all comers at the road course.
We see some interesting Corvette race cars for sale from time to time. However, we’re not quite sure what to make of these two Austrian Corvette race cars for sale.
Both include “GT3” in the listing, but neither appears built to FIA GT3 specifications. They’re curious cars in their origins, but one thing is for sure: Both look incredible.
The C5 remains remarkable because the listing says “GT3” but the car’s markings say “GT2.” Ironically, Corvette Racing never built a GT2 or GT3 version of the C5. That doesn’t mean that they couldn’t have been built to specifications post facto. Indeed, the seller claims the car was built for British GT and the 24 Hours of Spa.
It could perhaps be this one, but it’s hard to say. Whatever car this is, the car’s nose has been modified extensively from a stock C5 Corvette. In any event, it comes with a 6.2-liter LS engine (probably an LS3) and a Hewland sequential gearbox. The latter is not an easy piece to come by.
This C6 lists as a ZR1 with an LS9 engine. Callaway first homologated the GT3 versions of the Corvette as a Z06 with an LS7. The later LS9 makes way more horsepower than allowed in GT3. So something is amiss here, too.
It could be as simple as some bodywork changes and the engine swap, which packs at least 150 horsepower over the Z06 GT3. The seller lists a pile of Callaway parts on the car, so it may be one of those Z06s with some major upgrades. If that’s the case, this could be an insanely quick modified GT3 car.
The prices suggest both are privateer cars that exist outside of FIA specifications. The C5 lists for 64,000 Euro (~$75,000) and the C6 for 78,000 Euro (~$93,000). Those are close to old-spec GT3 prices, but with the engines in them, especially the C6, they might be a good bit quicker. And a decent bargain if the seller’s answers hit the right marks.
