Forum Members Finally See 2019 ZR1 in Person

A picture may be worth a thousand words, but they still only give you a taste of the real thing.

You’d be hard-pressed to find a CorvetteForum member who doesn’t remember the first ‘Vette they ever laid eyes on. Was it a classic? One new on the showroom floor? Ripping off a pass down the highway? We recall a certain 1969 Stingray, in blue with white rally stripes on the front fender, and also the first Corvette we got to ride in.

These cars have an undeniable presence about them, a trait not lost on the newest models either. One forum member, DebRedZR1, found that out while visiting the Rolex 24 at Daytona endurance race. In a post in the forums she said, “I’m in love! What a gorgeous Beast The hood and front are so intimidating in person 😎 And that wing!!!!!” The pictures from the auto show floor don’t do these cars justice.

Many of the other forum members chimed in, adding their agreement with DebRedZR1’s impression. She also took a picture of the C7R wing for the sake of comparison. The race car sports a wing that has slightly different support struts and a different shape. This is no doubt dictated by the differences between street and true race cars. The ZR1 street car doesn’t have to play by the same rules and regulations as the race car.

Of near universal agreement was a general feeling of displeasure regarding the side vents. One user thought they just looked off, while another said they reminded him of an aftermarket addition. We’re guessing he meant Pep Boys, same aisle as the chrome spinners.

A single naysayer, Davide36, chimed in with criticisms of the ZR1’s styling, pointing to a number of issues he has. His overall problem is that the elements added to the ZR1 appear, to him, to be tacked on instead of thoughtfully designed. He admits that the performance would probably sway his decision, and suggests that seeing one in person might change his mind.
