Weird Production Schedule Leaves Corvettes at Dealerships

Corvettes

Temporary hiatus in production means big discounts on 2017 Corvettes. But you might have to do a little searching.

Generally, when you visit your local dealership, you’ll find the latest models on the lot. And for much of the year, last years as well. But having three different model years of one specific automobile at the same dealership? That’s almost unheard of. And yet, it’s a real problem(?) facing Chevrolet dealers at the moment, as 2017, 2018, and 2019 Corvettes hog up precious space. The culprit for this unique problem? A weird production schedule.

2017 Corvette

It all started way back in August of 2017, when Chevrolet announced that they would temporarily halt production at their Bowling Green, Kentucky manufacturing plant. Rumors swirled that this three month pause was to allow Chevy to outfit the plant for a new, mid-engine Corvette. Officially, Chevy claimed the lull was designed to allow them to finish construction on a new, state-of-the-art paint shop. Regardless, some 2018 Corvettes, including the Carbon 65 special edition, had already shipped.

Meanwhile, plenty of 2017 Corvettes remained on dealer lots, and now 2019 models are arriving. Thus, a unique situation that seems like a prime opportunity to pick up a great deal on your choice of old/new Corvettes, right? And yet, according to the deal sleuths at Cars Direct, you have to do a little searching to find them. Currently, Chevy’s site advertises a mediocre $2,017 bonus and 4.9% APR for up to 60 months on 2017 models. And that’s it.

However, both 2017 and 2018 Corvettes are eligible for Flex Cash. The offer varies from dealer to dealer, but is good for up to $8,000 off 2017 Corvettes and $6,000 off 2018 models. Together with the aforementioned offer, that’ll net you over ten grand in savings on 2017 models. With plenty of ’17s still on dealer lots, this unique situation seems like a great opportunity to grab one at a discount!
