After Saturday’s events were canceled due to bad weather, the C8 Corvette driver took advantage with disastrous results.
As many watched this past weekend, the NASCAR Chicago Street Course race “took place,” in spite of some seriously wet weather. This very cool idea involved sectioning off part of the Chicago loop in the downtown area and giving drivers, their teams, and fans a truly unique experience. However, after Saturday’s festivities were ultimately canceled due to bad weather, a 46-year-old man decided to capitalize on the situation by taking his C8 Corvette for spin on the impromptu track, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
According to police, the C8 Corvette driver breezed past a barrier on South DuSable Lake Shore Drive and entered the course at around 9pm Saturday night, and was later spotted near Michigan Avenue and Balboa Drive. At that point, police were notified, and wound up escorting the C8 Corvette off the track at around 9:30 pm. We imagine that the car was pretty had to miss, given the fact that it’s finished in yellow with flames and logos referring to the Chicago-based cannabis brand 93 Boyz.
No injuries were reported, but the driver of the C8 is now facing a number of charges – according to Block Club Chicago – including negligent driving, lack of a valid registration, and operating an uninsured motor vehicle, so it appears that they don’t exactly have their paperwork in order, in addition to choosing to take advantage of a part of town that’s usually littered with traffic – no fun for someone that owns a pretty capable mid-engine sports car.
However, the C8 driver wasn’t the only one that got bad news over the weekend, as NASCAR wound up canceling the rest of the Chicago Street Course race as inclement weather continued into Sunday. The outfit named Cole Custer – who was in the lead after 29 of 55 laps had been completed prior to Saturday’s cancellation – as the winner, which no doubt came as a disappointment to everyone else, and perhaps many fans as well.
