Chevrolet Teases Mid-Engine Corvette at Dealer Conference!

At the Find New Roads dealer conference in Los Angeles, Chevrolet teased attendees with a glimpse of the mid-engine Corvette.

New York’s Van Bortel Chevrolet is a dealership that supports us here at CorvetteForum. Recently, Nate Chandler posted this to let us know he had seen Chevrolet’s mid engine tease:

“I just left the General Session presentation by GM/Chevy at the “Find New Roads” Dealer’s Conference at Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas. We got a glimpse of the C8 Corvette. It is coming. GM called it a supercar. The 2 pictures we saw showed very little, but I’m thrilled to share I caught a glimpse of the production car. It definitely looked mid-engined. The front hood reminded me of a lotus. Front bumper cover reminded me of the 2019 ZR1. Time to go party at the reception. If I bump into Brian Sweeny, US VP of Chevy, or other GM Execs, I will ask some questions and report back!“

This should put any lingering rumors that the mid-engined car will be a Cadillac. It’s a remote possibility that Cadillac will get a mid-engined sports car of it’s own in the future, but Chevrolet isn’t in the habit of teasing Cadillacs to Chevy dealers.

This tease from Chevrolet is just that. We have many questions, but the biggest is about where the mid-engine model will fit into the Chevrolet lineup. There are definitely some possibilities to consider. We certainly hope it doesn’t mean the end of the front-engine Corvette down the road. Curiously, when asked if Chevy confirmed it will be designated the C8, Chandler acknowledged the question but didn’t answer. We suspect that he couldn’t answer rather than wouldn’t.

Chevrolet are, unsurprisingly, playing their cards close to their chest. They definitely used the word supercar at the conference, but they have been rather loose with that term before. However, given the level of performance the Corvette team have been producing, a mid-engined variant could tip the ‘Vette from being a sports car that embarrasses supercars into something that sets its own bar as an actual supercar.
