A C6, A C7, A Straight Road, and the 1,900+ Horsepower Question

Here’s proof that the C6 versus C7 war is still raging on, place your bets.

It’s an argument as old as time: C6 or C7 Corvette? Well, it’s been an argument since 2013, at least. That’s when the C7 Corvette first appeared, making the then-king-of-the-road C6 seemingly obsolete. But for C6 fans (as well as people in the market for used Corvettes), the older car has proven to be surprisingly capable. With the youngest C6s now at least five years old, modified examples can still run with the hottest C7s. Don’t believe us? Check out the video above.

In it, we get two seriously powerful ‘Vettes battling each other for supremacy on the straightaways. And thanks to Street ScienceTX, we have an even better view than if we were there. In one corner, we have the “Boosted Banana,” a yellow C6 Z06 with a Stock bottom end on its LS7, but new heads, a boost cam, and a D1SC procharger. Running on E85, this mostly factory mill cranks out a whopping 900 horsepower.

In the other corner, there’s the black C7. It doesn’t have a name, but its fat racing slicks out back show that it means business. Under the hood, the engine has been built and now runs with an F1X procharger. Mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and running on C16 racing fuel, the C7 puts out a whopping 1,000-plus horsepower.

Other than some basic facts up front and some urgent-sounding music, there isn’t any talking here. Instead, the Corvettes speak for themselves. And at the end of the day, the C6 proves that it isn’t ready to shuffle off to the old folks home yet.

In three quick passes, the C6 eats the newer and more powerful C7’s lunch. Now, we don’t know important things like driver skill, and they are taking off from a rolling start. But other than the C7’s letting off on the first attempt, the Boosted Banana thoroughly embarrasses its successor.

Don’t get us wrong, we absolutely love everything about the C7. But in videos like this, the C6 is still eager to show that it was a pretty tough act to follow. If you’re willing to wait for the right car and aren’t afraid to get your hands dirty, you could build one into something that could keep up with the most formidable cars 2018 has to offer.
