On paper, the mighty C7 Corvette ZR1 seems like a ringer. But as they say, that’s why we race.

Even though the C7 Corvette ZR1 isn’t designed to be a dragster, per say, that hasn’t stopped folks from lining it up against anything and everything on the planet. And we can’t really blame them. After all, drag racing is a truly American sport. One that’s dominated by traction and horsepower, something the new ZR1 has in spades. But as we often see, numbers aren’t always the determining factor in who wins the race.

Going off figures alone, this results of this showdown by DragTimes might come as a bit of a surprise. On paper, it seems like the C7 Corvette ZR1 has a distinct advantage over the Lamborghini Huracan LP610-4, no matter what the format. Even if it is equipped with the giant wing and track pack. Otherwise, the Corvette dominates the stat sheets with 153 more horsepower. Weight is also pretty close, with the Lambo coming in a mere 48 pounds lighter on the scales.

There are just two problems, however. The Huracan has the advantage of all-wheel drive. And it’s a scorching hot day at Palm Beach International Raceway. Which means the supercharged ZR1 is going to have some issues, despite the massive power advantage. And that’s exactly what happens when the pedal hits the metal.

The first race is from a complete stop, using launch control on both cars. Predictably, the all-wheel drive Lambo gets the jump. But instead of reeling it in on the big end, the C7 Corvette ZR1 falls flat on its face. The ‘Vette does fare better in a 40-150 mph roll race, however, as both cars run pretty much dead even from start to finish.

Regardless, this is a pretty disappointing result for the Corvette. Could it be the heat, the driver, or just plain old bad luck? Hopefully, we’ll see a rematch under different conditions sometime in the near future!
