Is the C7 Corvette ZR1 a Goner After the 2019 Model Year?

C7 Corvette ZR1

It seems unfathomable, but production of the C7 Corvette ZR1 could soon come to an end — if you believe the rumors.

If it feels like the C7 Corvette ZR1 just came out, well, that’s because it did. But it isn’t exactly a secret that we’re on the verge of getting a brand new C8 Corvette, either. Thus, it’s hard not to look forward to the exciting mid-engine possibilities on the horizon. And in the process overlook the excellent new Corvette ZR1.

Thus, if you covet a new ZR1, you might want to hurry. Because if rumors are to be believed, the car might not be long for this world. In fact, 2019 might just be the last model year for the super, super car, according to Corvette Forum members.

Those rumors have spread like wildfire among the community. And range96 went to the source to try and find out if there was any truth behind them.

“Is the end of C7 Corvette ZR1 on 3/31/2019 confirmed or just speculation?”

Where there’s smoke, there’s usually fire. And quite a few members smell smoke.

“That will be the end of the 2019 model year according to GM sources,” said HTXSkydiver“No one is certain how long the production will run. However, it is likely into 2020-2021 as other indications show the C7 will run that long.”

“Saw an article saying C8 production starts in September 2019,” added 16/C7Z. “If the C7 is over and the C8 begins in September, they would need several months to switch over.”

Thus, it sounds like we’ll be able to buy a C7 Corvette ZR1 for at least another year or two. And if it’s in fact sold alongside the C8, maybe you can do so at a discount, as vetteb_96C points out.

“As I understand it, ZR1 parts were sourced for a 3-year production run. I’m a year 3 buyer @ 20% off MSRP.”

However, the tea leaves seem to indicate otherwise. Which is why many, including D’ZR1 Messiah, aren’t buying it.

“No one truly knows if there will be multiple years. It is true that dealers are not able to order past March. There have been rumors that C7 production will end August of 2019 and the C8 will be on the market in September 2019. Not to mention museum tours will open back up in January of 2019. Which leaves many people believing that the C8 will be unveiled at the LA Auto Show in November or Detroit Auto Show in January.

It makes sense that tours would begin again during that time if the C8 has already been revealed. No need to hide anything any longer after that point. I believe the C7 Corvette ZR1 will be a one year run. At the most, and this is a stretch, they could continue an abbreviated run of it from March – August 2019. This is all conjecture, but it’s fun to think of the possibilities. This will undoubtedly over time cause the ZR1 to hold its value as a one-year run.”

Still, it’s hard to fathom that Chevrolet would have spent all that time and money developing the C7 Corvette ZR1 if they only planned on building it for one model year. And yet, stranger things have happened, no? Thus, we want to know what you think. Head over here and tell us if you feel like the C7 Corvette ZR1 is one and done, or if it’ll stick around for another year or two!
