2023 Corvette Z06 Falls Off Lift in Horrifying Dealer Accident
It seems as if dealers still haven’t mastered properly lifting a mid-engine car after watching this 2023 Corvette Z06 take a reverse nose dive. Worst PDI ever.
Ever since the C8 Corvette debuted for the 2020 model year, we’ve seen more than one of the mid-engine supercars, well, take an unceremonious dive off a lift. The culprit, at least for the most part, has surprisingly been Chevy dealership technicians, who seemingly don’t understand that the process for lifting a mid-engine vehicle off the ground is a bit different than a front-engine model, given the fact that, well, more of the weight is located near the rear of the car. Using the wrong lifting points can result in a total disaster, as we’ve already seen, and that was once again the case with this poor 2023 Corvette Z06.
A photo of the 2023 Corvette Z06 surfaced recently in the CorvetteForum forums, and to our knowledge, at least, this may be the very first time this has happened to the relatively new LT6-powered machine. This was reportedly a customer car being treated to a pre-delivery inspection, at which point a dealer employee had placed it on the lift. Otherwise, there’s little information to go by, though someone did find video of the horrifying incident as it occurred, at least.
There are several theories as to what, exactly, caused this 2023 Corvette Z06 to take a reverse dive off the lift, though this time at least, it appears that the rear passenger side lift arm broke under pressure, which could have happened because the employee didn’t utilize the correct locations for the lift arms.
“The rear doesn’t appear to be at the right lift points, but it didn’t fall off backwards like you would expect if it was a weighting issues,” said z28lt1. “Sucks for whoever’s car that it is. Hopefully a replacement gets allocated quickly and it isn’t too long of a delay.” “Looks like the right rear lift arm was not positioned at the proper contact point,” added Zjoe6. “Car slipped off and the arm went through the body panels like a hot knife though butter. The left arm you that can’t see probably did even worse damage to the under carriage.”
Regardless of what caused this to happen, the aftermath is certainly not pretty. The lift arm caused some major damage to the car’s bodywork as it fell backward, ripping a hole in the door, while the rear of the Z06 landed directly on its bumper to boot. Thankfully, at least, there wasn’t anyone standing nearby, or things could have gone much worse. As it stands, only the car was damaged, but we can’t imagine having to be the one that makes this phone call – or being the one on the receiving end of it, either.
