C6 Corvette Z06 Cranks Out 1,030 Horsepower with Stock Rods

It doesn’t take much more than a pair of turbos to get this Corvette past the magical four-digit horsepower mark.

It never ceases to amaze us what modern Corvette racers are able to achieve on stock internals. The latest example of which is this C6 Z06, a car that’s cranking out over 1,000 ponies with stock rods intact. Well, at least for now. Granted, we are talking about a car that originally came with titanium rods, but this is still an impressive feat no less. And we were obviously interested to learn more about the car in this video from That Racing Channel.

TRC caught up with the Corvette and its owner Shane at their recent Carmageddon event at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida. The main power adders are, naturally, a pair of APS turbos. And the bottom end isn’t completely stock, as it’s been stuffed with some aftermarket pistons. But the rods and crank are original, and that’s pretty darn impressive.

The transmission has been treated to a Mantic clutch and has been “somewhat built,” according to the owner. He also notes that it takes roughly 16-17 pounds of boost to crest that magical four-digit horsepower mark. It’s a fairly conservative but reliable setup, which is pretty important unless you want to shatter those stock bits. But the Corvette still ran a best 158 mph roll in steamy Brandenton.

Not too shabby for a few simple mods and a pair of discontinued turbos, we’d say. But this C6 Corvette is just the latest in a long line of cars producing impressive results on stock internals. And when you don’t have to open up your engine to go racing, that just saves a bunch of time and money you can then spend on other goodies!
