Horrifying Street Racing Crash Leaves Corvette in Literal Pieces
The driver of this Corvette was racing a Mustang when it hit another car, lost control, and smashed into a utility pole and a tree.
Over the years, we’ve seen our fair share of wild crashes involving Corvettes, many of them caused either by excessive speeds, driver inexperience or error, or just good old fashioned street racing bouts gone horribly wrong. In some cases, these accidents have left those cars in a pretty sad state, whether they be split in half or sitting on their roof, smashed to bits and far beyond repair. However, a crash in Marion Country, Florida involving a Corvette might just take the cake as the absolute worst aftermath we’ve seen yet.
According to Fox 35 News and Marion County Police, the driver of the Corvette was racing a Ford Mustang on SR 200, with both cars driving in an aggressive manner and changing lanes multiple times when disaster predictably struck. The Corvette reportedly smashed into a Toyota Prius that was traveling on the same road, which caused it to lose control, skid off the road, and smash into a utility pole and then a tree, presumably at high speed.
Once it came to a rather abrupt halt, the Corvette was left in a state that makes it nearly unrecognizable, save for things like the wheels and ripped up body panels. There were quite literally parts laying around everywhere, from the engine to the wheels and tires to the seats and what’s left of the cockpit, which isn’t much. If we didn’t know any better, we’d assume the worst for the driver of this mangled up mess – who was ejected from the vehicle while this was happening – but somehow, they apparently lived and were transported to a local hospital.
As for the driver of the Mustang, they proceeded to conceal their vehicle behind a local business before heading over to check on the Corvette driver, at least. On the flip side, there are photos of the man on the scene, making him a bit easier to identify as police continue to investigate this particular incident. Regardless, it goes without saying that things here could have gone much worse – other drivers or even pedestrians/standers by could have easily been hurt or killed as a result of this silly practice, proving once again why it’s best to do your racing on the track, not public roads.
