C6-generation Corvette met a sad, wet end after it was stolen from owner’s home and then apparently driven into a lake in Idaho.

Every Corvette owner’s worst nightmare came true for one unlucky enthusiast in Idaho when his C6 was stolen from his home. The accompanying photo in the Coeur d’Alene/Post Falls Press shows what appears to be an Atomic Orange Corvette of undisclosed vintage being dragged unceremoniously from Mica Bay on Lake Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

According to Lt. Ryan Higgins of the Kootenai County Sheriff’s office the C6’s owner reported the sports car stolen on Wednesday night. That same evening a group of swimmers who were enjoying the lake near the public boat launch at Gould’s Landing spotted the bright orange Corvette completely submerged at the deep end of the boat launch. The sheriff’s office dispatched its dive to make sure that there was no one inside the vehicle before it was recovered from the water.

Once the car was out of the water, the sheriff’s department determined that it was the same Corvette that had been reported stolen earlier that day. Video surveillance of the scene was being reviewed but so far there are no suspects. No word on whether the owners plan on trying to resurrect the car, but for the moment it appears to be a complete write-off.
