Around 160 Corvettes of all generations attended 17th annual gathering at Preston Chevrolet.
Corvettes are just one of a handful of vehicles whose very presence evokes images of bald eagles, fireworks, and Old Glory flying high under the rockets’ red glare. Yet, no matter where a Corvette goes, it will soon find a home there, thanks to the feelings of family and community it creates around itself.
Langley, a suburb of Vancouver, British Columbia, is one of those places. Local newspaper Aldergrove Star has the story of the 17th annual “BC Corvette Club Show ‘n’ Shine” at Preston Chevrolet, where around 160 Corvettes of all generations recently gathered.
“The parking lot is full,” said club president Loren Cocking. “We have a whole bunch of cars. The weather is great. And we’re all here together sharing our love of Corvettes. Life doesn’t get much better than that.”
The show welcomed more than a few first and third-gen Corvettes, including a 1960 ‘Vette owned by Jay Walter. The car, residing in Saskatchewan prior to his purchase, was in his possession for a week before turning up for the show. For him, the show ‘n’ shine was all he dreamed of, and then some.
“What a show. It’s phenomenal,” said Walter. “You can see the love and the care that goes into these vehicles.”
Speaking of love, the show ‘n’ shine is also a fundraiser for a handful of charities, including the British Columbia chapter of Variety – The Children’s Charity, and scholarships for automotive trade students at the British Columbia Institute of Technology. All told, Cocking expects a total of over $640 raised from this year’s affair.
“It’s certainly grown into quite a community event over time,” said Preston Chevrolet president Peter Heppner. “It’s great to have the new products to look at every other day, but once in a while, it’s nice to see where you came from – this event certainly helps that.”
Heppner added that the event also allowed the dealership to shine a spotlight on its partnerships with the Langley community, including the Langley Events Centre, and the Preston GM Langley FC soccer club. The Corvette is the tie that binds us all, indeed.
