Son Helps Grant Father’s Dying Wish to See the 2020 Corvette

With little time left in his fight against bile duct cancer, one Corvette fan is gifted a private C8 viewing by GM.

Cancer is a relentless, mindless monster. It doesn’t care how young or old you are. It doesn’t care if you’re already in poor health, or if you’re the healthiest person around. It doesn’t care about your status, your faith, or your how you live your life at all. All it cares about is overwhelming its host until all are dead.

And while medicine does all it can to strike back, sometimes, the treatment is all for naught. This is the case for the father of Redditor mrpooballon, Larry. In May, his father was diagnosed with bile duct cancer on his 70th birthday.

Alas, none of the chemo or other treatments have worked, leaving Larry with little time left to see the 2020 Corvette on the road.

“The last time he was in the hospital he asked my wife and I ‘When do I get to see the new Corvette C8 on the road?’” the Redditor wrote. “When my wife told him they don’t release until 2020 the look in his eyes about killed me. My heart fell through the floor as he began to realize the chances of him seeing the 2020 Corvette was most likely not going to happen.”

Thus, with the help of General Motors and his local Chevrolet dealership, Midway Chevrolet of Phoenix, Arizona, the Redditor was able to grant his father’s dying wish to see the new Corvette while his father still could.

The look on Larry’s face upon receiving the key fob of the 2020 Corvette says it all. Here’s a man who’d never thought his dream would ever come true, only to be delightfully proven wrong among all of his friends and family.

The Chevrolet crew behind the Corvette Experience tour showed Larry everything the new mid-engine wonder can do, from removing the targa top, to all of the wonderful materials used in the driver-centric interior, and the all-new 6.2-liter LT2 V8.

Redditor monkeyinnamonkeysuit’s comment in the original post says it all: “You can see in his eyes that you did a wonderful thing for him in his final days, savour every moment you have left with him, and when his time comes I hope it is peaceful and dignified.”

Godspeed, Larry. May there be a C8 Corvette waiting for you in Valhalla.
