AMP-built Corvette ZR1 Runs 8s with the Front Wheel in the Air

Corvette ZR1 with the Advanced Modern Performance ZR5 package is in the 8s with the big aero kit.

While scrolling through the C7 Corvette section, we came across a thread by Chris Stewart detailing the success of a friend’s LT5-powered ZR1. Like the world’s quickest C7 ZR1, this bright orange supercar is fitted with the ZR5 package from Advanced Modern Performance, allowing it to cover the quarter mile in the 8-second range while running with the big rear wing and 18-inch wheels wrapped in street legal drag radial tires.

In other words, this Corvette ZR1 could comfortably cruise the streets in the same form that it runs an 8-second quarter mile, but making this run even more impressive is the fact that this Chevy supercar carries the front wheels on the big launch.

AMP ZR5 Corvette Details

When the OP first shared this video with the community, he provided some brief background details along with a picture of the timeslip and a picture of the Corvette ZR1 with the front tires in the air.

I’m usually in the C5 FI forum, but wanted to share this build of a friends car. This ZR1 was built in 6 weeks by AMP with a ZR5 package, and tested this week at Texas Motorplex. Amazing results!

In this initial post, the OP didnt include any details on the build, but he pointed out in a later reply that this Corvette made this run on Mickey Thompson ET Street R drag radials measuring 325/35R18. He also shared a link to the Advanced Modern Performance website where the details on the ZR5 package are listed. We have included those details below.

As you can see, it is an elaborate kit and with a cost of $29,500, it is not for everyone, but for the C7 Corvette ZR1 owner who wants to run in the 8-second range, this package seems to be the best deal going.

Corvette ZR1 Timeslip

As you might imagine, footage like what we included above gets the Corvette crowd fired up, and this post is no different. A handful of members chimed in with their praise for everyone involved with the run. Several members pointed out the fact that the ZR1 would have run quicker if the team had removed the huge rear wing, but “sr71bb” explained why the wing was kept on for the run.

The reason they left the wing on is that because thats one of the distinguishing characteristics of a ZR1. It was explained to me that they wanted to make it go fast DESPITE the wing. I do agree though, no doubt it would go 2-3 MPH faster with a quicker ET WITHOUT the picnic table on the back. LOL
