C3 Corvette Drag Racer Demolishes Competition with 9.3-l, 900-HP V8

Third-gen Corvette does bang-up job of proving the old saying that there is no replacement for displacement thanks to its massive V8.

While Corvettes are a dime-a-dozen here in the States (ok, maybe not quite that common) they are something of a rarity in European countries. YouTube channel Dutch Motorsport posted a video of a crazy C3 Corvette coupe taking on multiple challengers at the drag strip and beating almost all of them in large part due to the massive 900-hp normally aspirated V8 under the hood.

In the video the first competitor that the ‘Vette goes up against is a current generation Audi TT RS, the latter of which is certainly no slouch in its own right. According to the video’s title, the TT RS’s 5-cylinder, twin-turbo mill has been modified to the tune of about 600-hp. But the C3 dispatches the Audi with ease, outrunning it by several car lengths by the time the two drivers are at the end of the 1/4-mile.

Next up is a beastly 1000-hp Nissan GTR. The GTR certainly has a big advantage with more horsepower as well as a far grippier all-wheel-drive system that allows it to launch in a more efficient manner than the rear-wheel-drive, vintage Corvette. The GTR beats the Corvette, but by what appears to be only about a car length or so, if that. The fact that the Corvette was that close is extremely impressive. The next car is a GTR as well, though this one appears stock. The Corvette easily beats it thanks in part to a perfect launch.

Through0ut the video, which takes place at a couple of different drag strips, the Corvette pretty much dominates. The Nissan GTR seem to be the only models that can keep pace with the monstrous power of the Corvette. Some of the races even feature some Europe-only models like the latest-generation VW Scirocco and even a Seat, a Spanish brand owned by VW and knows for their hot hatches.
