Watch This C7 Corvette Ditch Police at Over 160 MPH

What starts as a routine dashcam video of a standard traffic stop turns into this C7 Corvette reminding police just how fast it is.

Just to be clear, here, we’re not advocating that anyone runs from the police. However, if you’re going to do it, being behind the wheel of a Corvette is going to put you at a substantial advantage. After all, most highway patrol vehicles anymore are Dodge Chargers, and a healthy amount of them have a V6 powerplant. Even the V8s can’t quite keep up with a C7 Corvette when it’s nearing its top speed.

A great example of this phenomenon recently made an appearance on the Police Pursuits YouTube channel. An Arkansas highway patrol officer clocks a speeding C7 and pulls out behind him on the freeway. After the officers lights the Corvette driver up, the ‘Vette makes its way to the far right lane and appears to seriously contemplate pulling over. After taking an exit, though, the Corvette driver rounds a corner at an intersection and decides to pin it. The rear end gets a little loose, the exhaust roars, the sirens come on, and the Corvette starts to get smaller and smaller.

It’s Hard to Tell What Model This C7 Is, but We Certainly Know It’s Quick!

The dash cam doesn’t offer the clearest look at this Corvette. It does, however, have some pretty wide haunches. So, there’s a chance we’re looking at a Z06 or a Grand Sport. Regardless of the trim, the screaming exhaust suggests that it has some modifications done to it. Ultimately, we’ll likely never know its exact details.

It does sound like the pursuit vehicle has V8 power. However, even assuming the best-case scenario, a Dodge Charger PPV with the 5.7-liter Hemi, the pursuing officer’s top speed is around 150 miles per hour. No amount of acceleration is going to help it keep up with a C7 and its 195+ MPH top speed. Despite the officer’s attempts to catch up at over 120 MPH, the ‘Vette makes its getaway in a couple of short minutes.

Of course, it’s worth reiterating that we’re certainly not advocating that anyone run from the police. This is especially true in traffic, and this video even has a perfect example of why. Right off the bat, the Corvette blasts through an intersection with a very blatant red light. The result is a near-accident that would have seen the Corvette slamming into the side of an SUV at speed. This kind of reckless and selfish behavior is exactly the kind of thing that puts innocent people in hospital beds and morgues. Furthermore, Carscoops points out that the police in Arkansas, particularly, have a tendency to escalate these types of scenarios into disasters. The fact that everyone escaped unscathed is impressive.

At any rate, there’s always that curiosity to see how these things go down. Seeing just how quickly this C7 driver ditches the police really puts the speed and capabilities of our favorite American sports car into perspective.
