Named “Dobbs Dragon,” C2 Corvette lives up to its name in more ways than one before ending its run in pieces.
Corvettes and quarter-miles. A match made in heaven if ever there was. On any given weekend at your nearest dragstrip, you’ll find at least one or two ‘Vettes ready to give all they’ve got, whether for bragging rights, or a top spot on the podium. Some ‘Vettes are straight off the showroom floor, others built for quick launches and high speeds. Either way, when someone brings a Corvette to the party, you know they’ve come to play.
Sometimes, though, playtime can be too rough. Not long ago, YouTube channel Spoold Media rolled up on the Wooostock Fall Brawl Carolina N/T finale at Darlington Dragway in Hartsville, South Carolina, where a badass C2 Pro Mod briefly gained its wings before they melted in the nitro flames.
“Testing at Carolina NT Wooostock Fall Brawl took a crazy turn as the Pro Mod Corvette known as [Dobbs] Dragon takes flight,” Spoold Media wrote in the video’s description. “This wasn’t just a wheelstand, as everything was off the ground and the car almost blew over!!!!!!”
Built by Lumberton, North Carolina shop Dobbs Racing, and piloted by Huston Dial, the nitrous-breathing Corvette packs over 2,000 horsepower, according to Lumberton newspaper The Robesonian back in 2011. Over the years, it’s worn a few paint schemes, including the purple-red-yellow-blue scheme it had back when it first started terrorizing the quarter-mile.

On this night, though, the quarter-mile would return the favor to the Corvette. As soon as it launched at the green light, the combination of big horsepower and big boost allowed the monster ‘Vette to launch into the sky for a brief moment, only to come crashing back down on the asphalt with its front clip exploding mid-air.
Despite the sudden burst of flight and equally sudden crash landing, Dragzine reports the Dobbs Dragon Corvette was back at it with a new nose tagged with the date of the ‘Vette’s brief trip into the sky.
Dial would go on to advance to the No Mercy 10 field at Wooostock, as well as earn a place in the Radial vs The World competition. Not a bad way to cap off a weekend full of (unintended) excitement in South Carolina.
