CMAF showcases Corvettes and raises money to fight Amyloidosis.
The 2019 Chip Miller Amyloidosis Foundation (CMAF) Corvettes for Chip event saw healthy donations, torrential downpours, and even Santa. But, one of the coolest features of this year’s gathering was the 24 Hours of Daytona #3 Corvette driven by Dale Earnhardt Sr himself.
Chip Miller, who passed away in 2004 due to Amyloidosis, was an avid Corvette collector and National Corvette Hall of Famer. His foundation honors Miller each year with a fundraiser featuring cool corvettes, corvette enthusiasts, sponsors, vendors and more.
Amyloidosis is a condition where the body produces an abnormal protein. “These amyloid protein fibers can attach and deposit into organs, tissues, nerves and other places in the body. When that happens, normal function of the area can be affected.” says the Amyloidosis Foundation.
Current CMAF president and son of Chip Miller, Lance Miller, honors his father’s memory through the foundation. CMAF tours the country raising support and awareness for the rare disease as well as conducts fundraising.
With the help of the York & Lancaster County Corvette Clubs (YCCC) (LCCC) this year’s event raised over $8500 for Amyloidosis awareness. Atop their, and other’s, generous donations, funds came via a bake sale, auction, and merchandise sales. Total funds raised were greater than that of the previous year.
2019 Corvettes for Chip event gets off to a wet start.
Event registration began at 8:30 am with a near-monsoon, dowsing guests in rain. Fortunately, however, guests enjoyed clear skies by mid-day. Naturally, an engine rev session occurred thereafter.
“We’re VERY fortunate we’ve got strong supporters because the people that made it to the event had large smiles and knew they were helping a wonderful cause,” stated Miller. “My father was smiling down with that genuine smile we all miss so dearly.”
Hundreds of guests came out with equally as many corvettes. But, the real show-stopper was the Miller family’s #3 Corvette. This Corvette was driven by Dale Earnhardt Sr, Dale Earnhardt Jr, and Andy Pilgrim in the 24 Hours of Daytona race in 2001. What makes it even more special is that it was the last vehicle Dale Earnhardt Sr completed a race in.
The event even had Santa Clause pay a visit. With a live DJ, food, and awards ceremony, attendees enjoyed a thrilling event from start to finish. Nothing beats gathering over cars with friends and loved ones.
“We are so proud to be a part of the Miller team and the CMAF,” said George Trocki, Corvettes for Chip Chairman. “Despite the weather, our spirits continued at a high level of energy and professionalism. The day was nicely organized. Winners appreciated their awards, the concessions were well received, and of course, all of the great sponsors who help make this event possible are greatly appreciated too.”
If you would like to contribute to the cause, donations are accepted 24/7/365 via the CMAF website. Also, anyone dreaming of owning a 2020 C8 Corvette can register to win via www.ChipMiller.org
