Final C7 Corvette was auctioned off this summer for $2.7-million.
The final Chevrolet Corvette from the C7 generation rolled off of the assembly line in Bowling Green, Kentucky on November 14, 2019. There was surprisingly little said about it by General Motors. The sole picture of the final car was Tweeted by the Chevrolet Twitter account, with a caption that began with “Some endings are bittersweet”.
The end of C7 production is doubly important. This black Z06 could be the last front-engined Corvette ever produced, as the start of the C8 brings about the era of the mid-engined Chevy sports car.
The Final C7 Corvette
As you can see in the image above, the final 2019 Chevrolet Corvette is a black Z06 3LZ. The car features red leather interior, the 7-speed manual transmission, and black wheels.
An unnamed buyer purchased the final C7 for $2.7M back in June at a Barrett Jackson auction. For that price, the winning bidder got to customize the Z06 to his or her liking. The result is the black-and-red supercar shown here. Like all C7 Z06 models, this ‘Vette has the supercharged LT4 V8 with 650 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque.
It is somewhat unusual that General Motors didn’t make more of a fuss over the final C7 Corvette. There was no press release; just the Chevrolet post on Twitter. We would have expected a picture with all of the plant workers gathered around and a sign that read something like “the end of the line”. This was a surprisingly quiet end to a key era in American automotive performance.
Auction Proceeds
We may not know who paid $2.7-million for the final C7 Corvette, but we know where the money went. The proceeds from the Barrett-Jackson auction went to the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation. This charitable group builds smart homes for American soldiers and first responders with serious injuries. The foundation provides other services as well, but the smart homes are the key focus of this large donation.
The $2.7-million price represents the most money ever donated by an automaker through a vehicle auction program.
