We certainly expected the 2020 Corvette to make a big splash, but Chevy has a runaway hit on its hands with 40,000 sold in the U.S. alone.

Given the anticipation and excitement surrounding the all-new 2020 C8 Corvette, it is hardly a surprise that the car is selling really well. Okay, that is an understatement. Corvette is in such high demand that it has now sold out, reports MotorTrend.

Consumers, pumped by the thrilling new design and performance, have been under the thrall of the C8 ‘Vette. And rightfully so, based on our experiences with the powerful sports car, as well as its many accolades and rave reviews. As a result, Chevy sold about 40,000 Corvettes in the U.S. since its release.

“The first year is sold out for 2020,” Barry Engle, president of North America for General Motors, told MotorTrend.

Production of 2020 Chevrolet Corvette C8 Stingray will not even start until early February 2020. Production was pushed back as a result of the UAW labor strike. But pre-orders had already tipped the scales.

To put these sales numbers in perspective: in 2018, Chevrolet sold 18,791 C7 Corvettes. GM allotted 40,000 C8s for the American market, and now each last one has already been claimed. Certainly the automaker is thrilled with such a huge jump in sales. However, Chevy will supposedly need to sell more loaded ‘Vettes (those over $80K) to ensure that they are making a solid profit.

A large part of the Corvette’s allure is its affordability. The 2020 Corvette starts at a sticker price of $59,995. Engle said Corvette dealers have been encouraged to sell the C8 Corvette at its base sticker price, discouraging makeups and upselling more loaded ‘Vettes. But, ultimately, dealers will do what they do, he conceded.

Available in three trims (1LT, 2LT, 3LT), the 2020 C8 Corvette Stingray comes as both coupe and as convertible. And both are truly remarkable Corvettes, with crazy fast speeds, precise handling, and–of course–that exciting mid-engine platform.

We are definitely not surprised by the hunger roused by such a groundbreaking Corvette. Hopefully, Chevy will be able to meet the C8 Corvette demand soon, and get those sweet rides on the road.
