Prepping for the debut race at 24 Hours of Daytona, the exotic flat-plane V8 C8.R sings songs of success.

You guys pleaded for Corvette Racing to bring back the iconic yellow livery and they did. As much as we loved the grey theme, we wanted the nostalgia of the yellow. One thing that we for sure don’t recognize from the previous generations is the engine. While there is a lot of debate and speculation about exactly what powers this new mid-engine race car, we have our suspicions.

If you recall, a couple of months ago, we had an article about Corvette Racing testing the C8.R at Sebring. There we confirmed (speculatively) that the C8 Z06 would receive a flat-plane twin-turbo powerplant. We made this assumption based on the sound of the engine during testing. Even a person unfamiliar with V8’s or engines in general could tell you this current generation holds no relation to the previous. If we were to describe the sound with one word it would definitely be “exotic.” Our previous speculations are feeling more and more certain with Lanky Turtle‘s new video of the C8.R at Daytona.

It’s a huge month for the Corvette Racing team. The car will be making its debut racing appearance at the 24 Hours of Daytona on January 25th. That is only a couple of weeks away and time is ticking. As with any new race chassis, you always want to try to start off with a bang. That means a race win during its debut. Corvette Racing has done this before and we are confident they can do it again.

We think the new sound of the Corvette is a good way to start off the new decade. Some purists most likely will be opposed because it doesn’t sound ‘Murica enough, but we disagree. We think that the most important part of any race car is winning races. If a flat-plane V8 and turbos are required to make that happen, we are more than happy to oblige. Wouldn’t it be amazing to beat companies like Ferrari at their own game? We think so.
