How Much Cheaper Will C7 Corvettes Get Following the C8’s Release?

C7 Corvette values have already dipped as C8 creeps toward delivery, but will they drop even further afterward?

Depreciation – in the automotive world, it’s inevitable. Unless you’re lucky enough to score some super limited edition gem, that is. In the world of the Corvette, we’ve seen each passing generation dip in value as the next generation comes along, which is completely normal. Heck, C7 prices have already hit new lows, even before the first C8 hits the streets. So once the newest Corvette is a common sight on our roads and dealerships lots, how much lower will those C7 prices go? It’s a question that’s being explored in detail in this fascinating Corvette Forum thread.

“How do y’all feel the C7 market will be affected once we start seeing the new C8 on the streets?” asked member Chris925. “Has the depreciation slowed down, or is it going to continue or accelerate? I’m curious to hear your opinions!”

Vetteman Jack thinks that the answer is, well, more of the same. Though the C7 has one thing going for it that might stabilize values.

“C7 depreciation will continue on just like it did with former generations after a new one was introduced. I’m not convinced it will accelerate, since there are still a lot of fans of the front engine design.”

As we’ve discussed already, there are still a bunch of C7 fans out there. And that might also help keep values from completely tanking.

“Not really worried about it since I’m not a big fan of the C8,” said lakemg. “The C8 Z06 might change my mind, but so far, I’ll be happy with keeping my antiquated C7.”

“The C7 is a beautifully styled and highly desirable American sports car and will remain so for some time,” added Landru. “C7s are also more attainable than C8s for any would-be first time owner unwilling/unable to drop the money on a C8.”

Of course, there are plenty of others who feel like the front-engine, manual transmission C7s are doomed even though they’re the last of the breed.

“I don’t think the manuals will depreciate as much as the auto C7s,” said The Successful Plumber. “But due to the price and performance of the C8, the resale value of the C7 is doomed. So I’m going to drive mine like I stole it. And when it’s all used up, l’m going to light it on fire, roll it off a cliff, and find another one!”

Then again, values might dip, but eventually rise back up, as wOrM points out.

“I’d also point out the C6s are still holding their value very well 7 years later. Do a search on Cars.com. Well taken care of C6s are still fetching a good percentage of their original MSRP.”

C7 Values

It’s pretty clear from this small sampling of responses that opinions on this topic are very much mixed. So we want to hear what you think. Head over here and tell us if you think C7 Corvette values are set to tank, or if its historical significance will keep them afloat!
