‘Corvette Forum’ Checks Out Chicago’s World of Wheels!

Corvette World of Wheels

World of Wheels showcases the best hot rods and custom builds, and a diverse showing of Corvettes was on hand.

Corvettes are a bit unique in the world of hot rods. For many Corvette owners, originality is an important aspect of each car. After all, NCRS and Bloomington Gold awards are highly sought after. But there’s still a group of Corvette owners who have visions for their rides. We spotted a few at the World of Wheels show in Chicago and picked a few of our favorites.

One standout was this green C2 which  is essentially brand new. A company called B Rod or Custom brought this Corvette to the show, and it showcases their full replacement C2 bodies. Fiberglass panels are press molded, and assembled like the original with bonding strips. In fact, their kits are so accurate, they can replace OEM panels. But they didn’t stop there. Optional wide-body corvette panels are available if your build is going for that extra bit of flare. While a coupe is shown here, a convertible is available as well.

One thing we always like is seeing classic cars modernized, but left with the aesthetic and charisma of the original. This LT4 powered C2 was stunning in Daytona Blue, and had a gorgeous engine bay and completely re-worked interior. Suspension was fully modernized as well. Photos do not really do this car justice. The interior fit and finish is absolutely perfect, and there’s not a single ripple in the fiberglass or paint at all.

Racing has always been part of the Corvette’s history, as showcased by these C3 racers. The blue/white/red No. 2 is made as an homage to the Sunray-DX racer from the 60’s and even though the original was a hardtop, this coupe carries those colors just as well. The original was also an L88, where as this Corvette carries something far more tame under the hood. Even so, a car that is properly wheeled is still awesome to us. Corvette N0. 68 is driven in vintage races, and is unique for having a vinyl hardtop. When is the last time you saw a race car with a vinyl top?
