C8 Corvette vs 992 911 Launch Control Comparison Proves Interesting

We haven’t seen them go head-to-head just yet, but Porsche’s 992 911 and C8 Corvette have some similarities.

Now that the C8 Corvette is mid-engine, it’s really no surprise that a lot of folks are comparing it to other, high-end, exotic machines. Including, of course, Porsche’s venerable 911. Which is technically rear-engine, but you get the point. It also just so happens that the latest 992-gen 911 is fairly new itself, and priced not terribly far off a well-equipped C8. So when Corvette Forum member Iker came across and shared this launch control video of both cars in this thread, it sparked a very interesting discussion revolving around the two legendary performance vehicles.

For starters, a lot of people just aren’t feeling the muffled sound Porsche’s latest 911 produces.

“Porsche’s sound just does nothing for me,” said Tool Hoarder.

“The Euro regulations are killing German cars. That exhaust is terrible,” added Sin City.

On the other hand, it does look like the Porsche has the edge in terms of getting off the line.

“I hate to say it, but it looks like the Porsche leaves harder,” said the lark. “Looks like the C8 burns out a little. The clutch must open up for a split second until it get traction.”

“Both could be said to bog a little upon initial launch,” added Warp Factor. “But maintaining high rpms on launch is really hard on clutches, whether manual or DCT. That’s why torque converter transmissions, even two-speeds, still shine at the dragstrip.”

Porsche owner usrodeo4 adds a little more detailed analysis to the pool.

“Both cars are close in performance, which says a lot about the value of the C8. It will be interesting to see how the C8 Z06/Zora/Zxxx matches the 992 Turbo S, which the mags are saying they expect 2.4-second 0-60 times and somewhere north of 205 mph. My ’18 991.2 Turbo S will do consistent 2.5-second 0-60 runs and is a 205+ mph car. But people buy cars for all kinds of reasons. I loved my C7 Z06. But as a former 911 Turbo owner, I just decided I liked the total Porsche 911 Turbo ownership experience.”

Over just a couple of weeks, this thread has exploded with hundreds of responses on this interesting comparison. Many are worried about the C8 and its tepid launch, while others are obviously not. So we want to hear what you think. Head over here and tell us what this interesting video reveals to you, and which car you think holds the upper hand in this revived rivalry!
