Hennessey Shows Off World’s First Twin Turbo C8 Corvette

After a 1,400-miles & a stop at the National Corvette Museum, Hennessey Performance beat the YouTubers with twin turbski plans.

C8 Corvette deliveries just started this month, and already, someone has figured out a twin-turbo setup. If anyone was going to do it, it would be Hennessey Performance. The Corvette’s new mid-engine setup means that a turbo setup has to be packaged very differently. There’s not a whole lot of space to play with, but the Hennessey crew figured it out.

When we watched TJ Hunt’s Magnaflow exhaust video, we got an in-depth view of the limited space behind the 2020 Corvette’s rear bumper. Somehow, Hennessey figured out how to make everything clear the bumper.

Currently, the exhaust has a very unfinished look, but we’re sure that will all be taken care of once any bugs are worked out. For now, it’s cool to see the turbo peeking behind the rear diffuser, and we hope things stay that way. We just want to see some proper exhaust tips on this thing.

The rowdy, unmuffled V8 sound, combined with the whistle of the turbochargers can only be described one way. In the video, one bystander simply says, “It sounds awesome!”

We’ve been following this orange Corvette all week long. On Monday, March 16, John Hennessey and his daughter flew to Detroit, Michigan to pick up the Corvette. Naturally, it’s a Z51 package car.

After 200 miles in the saddle, Hennessey’s daughter asks him what he thinks of the Corvette. He says, “It drives like a dream.” After some more miles in the saddle, he reflects a bit more on the experience. “It’s impressed me more than I was expecting.” That’s high praise from a guy who makes his living with some of the most powerful cars in the world.

Later on, the pair stopped at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky. They take in some Corvette history before heading home. Once they made it home, they shared another cool video.

This time, the video was brief, with not much scenery. However, it was still thrilling, because we hear the Corvette roar to an incredible GPS-verfied top speed of 182 miles per hour. Zero to sixty comes in just 4.14 seconds, with the quarter-mile coming in a mere 11.98 seconds at 116 miles per hour.

The half-mile mark is passed in just 18.76 seconds at 143 miles per hour, with the standing mile taking only 30.24 seconds at a blistering 164 miles per hour. We’re eager to see just how much faster this monster is with the twin-turbo setup.

We’re sure that there will be a video any day now. As soon as it drops, you’ll be sure to see it here on Corvette Forum.
