Some C8 Corvettes Reportedly Plagued by Poor Paintwork

Bad run in front fascia of YouTuber’s C8 sparks a heated debate on Corvette Forum over quality control.

Historically speaking, brand new car models are typically plagued with at least a small handful of problems. That’s where the old “never buy the first year of a new car” saying comes from, of course. And even today, with all the technology that goes into vehicle development and production, this ages-old issue seemingly hasn’t gone away, even for the brand new C8 Corvette. Folks have been complaining about interior quality already, and now it appears that some are facing paint issues as well. Corvette Forum member jh225 started a discussion on this topic in this thread and pointed to a recent video from YouTuber Chevy Dude as evidence.

“I guess C7 paint issues, even with the gazillion dollar state-of-the-art facility, have carried over to the C8. The C8 front fascia pictured has a pretty bad run. I know most C7 paint issues were not runs, but there definitely were some. And if these parts are brought in pre-painted as were the C7 ones, shame on GM for accepting this product.”

C8 Corvette Paint Problems

At least in the case of this C8, it certainly isn’t a good look. But most members that chime in have a few humorous things to say about it.

“The robot that painted it was hung over from the night-before bender,” said Phil1098.

The main debate that ensues, however, revolves around whether or not this problem is common or isolated.

“Bad paint is such a hit or miss occurrence on Corvettes,” said MMD. “Many vehicles have very good paint. My C7 GS has excellent paint.”

“That paint effect you see is visible on every single lower rocker panel of Z06/GS/ZR1 where the rear brake duct cooling is,” said UnhandledException. “It’s not visible to the naked eye. But if you take a flashlight and shine it at a certain angle, you will see it.”

Still, this problem only seems to be affecting a small percentage of C8 Corvettes that have been produced so far. And as Steven Garrett points out, that’s not really a reason to sound the alarm or dig on GM too badly.

“No, paint is NOT still an issue. I’m sure this is an isolated incident. Did you consider how many cars have excellent paint jobs? One bad car does NOT make paint an issue.”

C8 Corvette Paint Problems

So far, no C8 owning Corvette Forum members have complained about paint problems, at least in this thread. So we’re curious to hear from you. Have you seen any similar issues, either on your own car or someone else’s? If so, head over here and tell us about it!
