Carolina Corvette Club Gives Back to Local Community
Though their usual fundraiser is on hold, the Myrtle Beach Corvette Club continues to give in so many ways through tough times.
One of the things you can count on with the Corvette is the community behind it. No matter the day or the season, Corvette fans use their rides to draw attention to good causes in their communities. From charity drives and poker runs, to car shows and beyond, the funds raised guarantee beneficiaries will fare well into the future.
Alas, some things can hinder those efforts. And yet, Corvette owners will drive around the obstacle rather than through it. One example is the Myrtle Beach Corvette Club in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. According to local CBS affiliate WBTW-TV, the club found ways to give to their local community, despite postponing their annual fundraiser.
No Roadblocks Can Stop Them
According to WBTW-TV, the Myrtle Beach Corvette Club usually holds its annual charity car show at this time of the year. However, the current global environment threw a bucket of cold water on those plans for 2020.
Instead, local NBC affiliate WMBF-TV reports the club visited three hospitals in and around Myrtle Beach on May 4. The club delivered boxed lunches from local restaurants Doesn’t Matter Bar and Grill, Milardos Pizzeria, and Papa’s Pizza.
“These three restaurants are sponsors of Myrtle Beach Corvette Club activities, and our membership wanted to support them in these uncertain economic times,” club president Gerry Gismondi told WMBF-TV. “The hospital staffs are working round the clock to tend to patients during this pandemic, and our club members wanted to show appreciation for their tireless effort. The doctors, nurses and all the other hospital staff deserve our gratitude.”
“They are doing an excellent job and we want them to be safe,” club treasurer Linda Ferrero added. “We want them to know that there are organizations around Horry County that respects everything that they do. We just want to give back to them.”
Another member, Sandie Mussleman raised over $1,500 to buy groceries for families in need in Myrtle Beach and the rest of Horry County. One of the club’s charities, Back Pack Buddies, usually handles this task. Without the annual show, though, Mussleman took the reins.
“Back Pack Buddies, every Friday, packs food items for children for the weekend,” Musselman told WBTW-TV. “Well, they didn’t even have enough to do that because they were having families come in and say, ‘We don’t have any food at all.’”
We are so happy to have clubs like this in our community.
