Porsche Owner Calls C8 Corvette ‘Slow,’ Chaos Ensues

Is a tuned Porsche Cayman S really faster than a C8 Corvette? At least one person apparently thinks so.

For the most part, we’ve heard few complaints about the all-new C8 Corvette. A couple of people have had issues with paint and interior quality, sure, but that’s pretty much it. Exactly no one has complained about the C8 in regards to its acceleration, and why would they? After all, this is a car capable of sub 3.0-second 0-60 times. That is, until now. Apparently, the C8 left Corvette Forum member and Porsche owner 4.0 Flatwanting a bit more.

“First, I want to say that I love my 2020 C8 Corvette. My last Corvette was a 2001 Z06, so it’s been a while. Since then, I have owned pretty much the whole range of exotics. I knew going in, coming from the current F-Cars and 720S that I had to temper my expectations as far as power and speed. However, today I was driving my Cayman S with an ECU upgrade (400 HP +/-) and I think it’s faster. The C8 no doubt is really quick, but I don’t think it’s fast. Going 30-80 mph, it doesn’t feel impressive as far as power and speed. So I’m curious to see if anyone else has experienced similar feelings. Again, for $70k, the car is unreal no doubt. It’s quickness is also on par. But it just feels ‘slow.’”

Unsurprisingly, a lot of people immediately chime in to dispute these claims. After all, on paper, it’s hard to believe that the Cayman S has a shot at beating even a stock C8. But DSOMrulz has an even better explanation.

“There’s a reason people measure performance with stopwatches or electronic timers. You can’t accurately judge acceleration by ‘feel.’ Almost everyone who has tested the C8 says it doesn’t feel as fast as it really is. If you have a 2LT or 3LT, the PDR will record 0-60 times far more accurately than your ‘feeling.’ All three trim levels have a 0-60 time in the DIC.”

JBHunter gives the OP some homework to do, with a turn-in deadline of a day or so.

“Why don’t you simply take both cars out in the country with a friend and race them from 0-to-100? You can change off between both cars, because they are both yours. It is simple to put them both in D and have at it. Or paddle shift them both at or just below redline and get your own data. Please make sure that the start is fair for both cars. Tomorrow is Sunday, so you could easily do it before noon, then report back to us in this thread. I can’t wait to read your results.”

In just a few days, this post has exploded with hundreds of replies. And it’s easy to see why – this is clearly a topic that gets under people’s skin, and for good reason. We completely understand that some cars “feel” faster than others, but we have a hard time buying that a tuned Cayman S can outrun a C8 Corvette. Still, we want to know what you think. So head over here and join this heated yet interesting conversation!
