Sony Announces XAV-AX5500 Car AV Receiver with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

The XAV-AX5500 features a Double DIN display but a Single DIN rear chassis, leaving room for additional accessories and wiring.

Sony Electronics Inc. has announced the new XAV-AX5500 car AV receiver, offering upgraded audio extensibility, enhanced smart features, and user customizations. Looking down the list of specs and features, the internal amp features four channels of 55 W power as well as three 5V pre-outs and dual USB ports. The AX5500 is also Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and rear-view camera ready.

Most intriguing, perhaps, is the unit’s chassis design. The 6.95-inch diagonal touchscreen display lacks a bezel, with the idea being a discrete flush-mount fit in your older vehicle. But the electronic components — the rear chassis — is actually Single DIN in size, which Sony says, “leaves plenty of room for cabling and other accessories in the space behind the display.” That’s perfect for things like steering wheel control integration boxes, etc.
