C7 Corvette Takes Police on 170 MPH Adventure… and Escapes!

C7 Corvette driving over 170 MPH on Los Angeles Freeway running from police

C7 Corvette driver takes drastic measures to evade police, including turning off headlights on the LA freeway at over 100 miles per hour.

Look, we’re not here to advocate running from the Police. Eventually, you’ll get caught. However, if we were to theoretically give anyone advice on running from the police, we’d suggest doing it in something fast. We’ve covered Corvettes running from the police in the past. However, this particular C7 Corvette adventure through Los Angeles, California is particularly wild. Fortunately, it didn’t end in a devastating crash. Given the monumental speeds the driver was pulling, that’s a bit shocking.

NBC Los Angeles brought us live coverage of this pursuit on the night of February 22nd, 2024. The full chase is still live on the news station’s YouTube channel, so you’ve got the opportunity to witness it firsthand.  If anything, it’s great that this happened around 11 P.M. If you somehow aren’t familiar with the concept of LA traffic, we can assure you that this type of driving during the day would likely have ended much worse.

A Simple Traffic Stop Gone Awry

C7 Corvette speeding through city streets during police chase

NBC Los Angeles reports that this pursuit, like many, started with a somewhat routine traffic stop. In this case, the driver was allegedly going the wrong way on a street in Pomona, California. So. while it may not be as crazy as those who evade police for simple things like failing to signal or having a tail light out, it’s still seemingly minor compared to what an an all-out pursuit scraping on 200 miles per hour can get you.

From there, the Corvette made its way onto the interstate. That is where the true craziness unfolds. Cruising over 170 miles per hour and weaving through traffic is bad enough. However, the driver even shuts off the car’s headlights while swerving through traffic. We don’t know about you, but zipping past an un-knowing 18-wheeler at triple-digit speeds with no lights on doesn’t sound like something we’re interested in experimenting with. Eventually, the ‘Vette makes its way off the interstate briefly and zips through surface streets past parked cars. No taking it easy here, either. The on-screen speedometer still shows over 80 miles per hour.

The Driver Got Away…For Now

C7 Corvette driving blitzing through downtown LA running from police

The pursuit eventually comes to an end when the driver exits the freeway and enters downtown Los Angeles. After blitzing through intersections and swerving through traffic, the driver eventually enters an underground parking garage. Naturally, in an effort to reduce danger to the general public, police in pursuit pulled back as the Corvette’s speeds got higher and higher. So, there weren’t a lot of nearby squad cars by the time the driver entered the parking garage. Once the car was out of sight of the helicopter, the driver bailed and ditched the car. At the time of writing, the driver is still at large.

It’s safe to assume, though, that with all the cameras you’ll find in any given parking structure these days, there’s footage of the driver exiting the vehicle somewhere. This C7 Corvette driver might have gotten away for now, but there’s a good chance they’ll find the culprit. Moreover, during the pursuit announcers mentioned that the Corvette has license plates that officers ran. If the driver is the owner of the car, that’s going to be an easy one. There is, of course, always a chance that the car was stolen. In which case, we may never know who was behind the wheel.

That said, we’d still recommend that you don’t get yourself into a high-speed police pursuit. Yes, even if you have a Corvette and you know police won’t continue to chase you at high speeds. If you feel the need, you can live vicariously through this particular incident in the full-length replay of the live stream below.
