Twin Turbo C8 Fires Up for the First Time!

This twin turbo C8 build goes for style to match the power.

The C8 Corvette hardly needs any help in the performance department. Straight out of the box, this is one of the fastest cars you will be able to get your hands on, especially at this price point. However, being a car enthusiast means never settling for stock, no matter how impressive that stock configuration may be. Tuners are already hard at work modifying the C8. There has already been a twin turbo C8 completed but there is always room a build like this.

TJ Hunt has posted up on his YouTube channel how his C8 twin turbo build is coming along. In this clip the car has reached a significant milestone and is started up for the first time. The turbos are on as is the custom exhaust. Even though it could only be run for a short time and was not running any boost it still gives us an idea of what is to come.

The cool thing about this build is the attention to detail and focus on the aesthetic element as well as performance. The two turbos as well the core have been given a black crackle finish which looks amazing. The custom titanium exhaust also looks the business when it is installed. As Hunt says: “Everything looks super clean, super tight.”

C8 Corvette turbo install

Hunt decided to go with Precision Turbo for the turbochargers. Installed in the C8 are their Mirror Image PT6266 turbochargers. When installed in a twin configuration they are be able to handle up to about 1,600 horsepower. The challenge now is that no one has yet cracked the ECU in the C8 which will make getting big power difficult. However, conservatively, these should add at least 100 horsepower off the bat. That should make the already impressively fast Corvette absolutely insane.

Time to start this beast up and hear what it sounds like. The build is not finished, and with things like the oil lines still left to be installed the engine cannot be run for very long. Nonetheless, this is a twin turbo C8 we are talking about and we can’t wait to hear what it sounds like. A couple drops of oil are put directly into the turbos and it is time to press the ignition button. Hunt sums it up best: “Oh shit that was loud! The car is like so loud you can’t even hear the turbos on top.” This car is going to be a monster when all is said and done.

So how much more must be done before this C8 is ready for the dyno and a road test? The wastegate lines need to be installed yet. The car also needs to be plumbed for the heat exchangers. At that point it should be ready for the dyno to reveal just how much power this thing is making. Being one of the first to build a C8 twin turbo setup is exciting but has its challenges. “Things go a lot slower when you are making them up and literally building them as you go as opposed to just buying a kit that’s already done and installing it.” Says Hunt. That is certainly true, but good things come to those who wait, and we are waiting patiently to see how this build turns out.
