Toyota Dealer Trolls C8 Buyers by Offering Supra as Alternative to Waiting

Why keep waiting on your C8 Corvette order when you can buy a rebadged BMW Z4 right now instead? (/Sarcasm)

Waiting sucks. Especially when you’re waiting on an amazing car like the C8 Corvette. And there are quite a few folks out there staring sadly out their window, just waiting for GM to build and deliver their C8. Unfortunately, at least a few of those folks won’t even get a 2020 model, as GM recently admitted that it can’t fill all of its current orders. So what’s an impatient C8 buyer to do? Well, according to Yokem Toyota in Shreveport, Louisiana, they should just cancel that order and go buy a Supra.

The dealer even went to the trouble of erecting a giant billboard that reads “Still waiting on a Corvette? Come get your Supra.” This hilarious little slice of genius marketing was spotted by Corvette Forum member mudbug, who proceeded to post it in this thread for everyone else’s enjoyment. And as you would imagine, his fellow members had a veritable field day with it.

“Still waiting on your groundbreaking car of the year Corvette? Maybe you want to settle for this BMW Z4 with Toyota badges? The MKIV supra was an incredible car, but the current version is not that. The lack of enthusiasm in the community of fanboys shows it,” said GTUnit.

However, Sin City summed up what everyone was thinking in just a few words.

“Translation: ‘Please, please, please buy my Supra no one wants!’”

Indeed, life is tough for Toyota these days. It hyped up the new Supra for years, despite the fact that it’s mostly just a rebadged BMW and not the cool, unique sports car it once was. The new Supra is also quite expensive, as the 3.0-liter version starts out at just a hair under $50k. Which makes us wonder – who in the world would buy one of these instead of a base C8?

The new Corvette is a mid-engine, V8-powered, exotic-looking machine pulled by one of the biggest hype trains in recent history. The new Supra is, to be fair, a pretty good sports car. But it’s also an overpriced, not terribly great-looking, not terribly fast BMW Z4 wearing Supra badges.

Kudos to Yokem Toyota for their clever advertising attempt. But there’s a reason why there are Supras sitting on dealer lots collecting dust while C8s are getting marked up to the moon.
