Classic 1979 Corvette Goes From Dream Car to Project Car
After years of driving by a neglected C3 Corvette, one man finally made it his mission to get and restore this black beauty.
Temptation is definitely a powerful force. And a great motivation. We have all been there. That one car that you just can’t get out of your mind. But how cool would it be if you finally got an opportunity to buy the object of your desire? After years of passing by a black 1979 Corvette, one Redditor jumped at the chance to finally own it. While the C3 ‘Vette is not exactly perfect, it is exactly what he wanted. No longer a fantasy, this classic Corvette will be undergoing a restoration to return it to its former glory.
“I drove by this ’79 Corvette every day and have been wanting to buy it since high school. I was finally able to acquire it,” posted Redditor WolfCreekFarm.
The previous owners–inexplicably–let the Corvette sit for about ten years. Despite this, it wasn’t in completely dire condition. He inspected the frame and floor panels, which was a mixed bag.
“First thing I checked was the windshield frame and the body mounts under the kick panels,” says WolfCreekFarm. “They have light surface rust, but what I saw so far seems good.”
Some other issues include broken glass, and moss on the interior carpet. WolfCreekFarm has done quite a bit of work on his other vehicles, but this is his first Corvette. So, he is putting in the research, preparation, and time needed to fix up the ‘Vette right.
The biggest issue is the engine, which will require a full swap. After he got it home, he used a power washer to clean it out…and evict some mice who had taken up residence in the engine bay.
While the 350 small-block has its merits, there are other powertrain options he is considering. “I like the sound of an LS in the Corvette,” WolfCreekFarm says. “I’ll see how this one pans out first. The smog components are off of it already because the engine has been rebuilt previously with a mild cam and headers.”
More than anything, this car is going to be a project driven by great love and respect for the C3 Corvettes. Going from longtime admirer to owner will be work, but it is work that pays off. Especially given how strongly WolfCreekFarm feels about the C3 Corvettes. This is a Corvette enthusiast to the core. And who better to make sure the classic sports car keeps on rolling than someone who deeply appreciates how unique, groundbreaking, and just incredible the 1979 Corvette was, is, and can be.
We’ll be watching to see his progress. But it seems that this classic Corvette is in the right hands, at last.
