C8 Corvette vs Tesla Model 3

C8 Corvette is poorly showcased in a video clearly made to pander to the electric vehicle crowd.

The C8 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray has received huge praise for its launching abilities. The stock C8 is capable of sprinting from a stop to 60 miles per hour in under three seconds. Some outlets and owners have gotten down to 2.6 seconds in stock form, with the help of the high tech launch control system. It is the quickest stock Corvette ever while also being one of the quickest stock production road cars ever.

Tesla vehicles are also praised for their low-end acceleration thanks to the combination of all-wheel-drive and the instant torque of the electric drivetrain. For example, Tesla claims that the quickest Model 3 is capable of dashing to 60 in just 3.2 seconds. It seems like it would be a good race with a well-driven C8. Unfortunately, the new Stingray in the video below is not being well-driven. More importantly, the Model 3 driver leaves a little early on every run. As a result, the Electric Car News YouTube channel is able to showcase the new Corvette losing to the Tesla, but we think that these runs were all garbage.

C8 Corvette Versus Tesla Model 3

We don’t have any details on either of these vehicles, but we can see that the C8 Corvette Stingray has aftermarket wheels. It appears to be stock beyond the wheels and the Tesla Model 3 also appears to be stock. It seems that the driver of the Model 3 is purchasing the Corvette. Before he does so, they want to pit the two head-to-head a few times.

It has the making of a great set of drag races, but the Corvette owner doesn’t do a great job of launching the car. The Tesla driver leaves questionably early, giving the Model 3 a comfortable head start on every run. They then only race a short distance, naming the Tesla the winner in all three races. In reality, the Tesla only won the battle of which car moved first from the start.

Unrealistic Results

Based on what we have seen from media testing and private owners, the C8 Corvette Stingray is easily capable of getting from a stop to 60 miles per hour in less than three seconds. Tesla points out that the quickest Model 3 can only get to 60 in 3.2 seconds. The C8 would have to be poorly driven to lose even a short drag race with the electric sedan. With an average run, even against a perfectly driven Model 3, the C8 Stingray would still have a healthy lead by the time it hits 60.

However, the Corvette driver is remarkably slow to launch on every run. The Tesla driver looks to be leaving way earlier. As a result, electric vehicle fans can pound their chests that their soulless sedans beat the almighty Corvette. Meanwhile, anyone who has been involved in a few races knows that none of these three runs were legitimate.

Hopefully one of our members with a C8 Stingray will have a chance to match up against a Tesla in a couple honest races and catch them on video.
