2006 C6 Corvette Z06 wins its class and smokes the track at this year’s Global Time Attack Road Atlanta event.
We can all agree that 2020 has undoubtedly been one of the most unusual and challenging racing seasons ever. While many major events have been sidelined by Covid-19, there is still hot racing action to be found. Recently, Global Time Attack (GTA) held their annual Road Atlanta event at Michelin Raceway. Racing went on while observing all health and safety guidelines, natch. This year, a lot of amazing rides blazed through the 2.54 mile, 12-turn road course. But the real scene-stealer–and winner–was a 2006 Corvette Z06 that posted some amazing, record-breaking numbers.
If you aren’t familiar with time attack races, you should be. Time attack racing is growing in popularity, and features some of the most creative and exciting track-builds. The timed speed event has each vehicle run the same laps on the same circuit to best the competition and the clock. Competing classes vary from Enthusiast, Street, Limited, Unlimited.
What is especially appealing about time attack racing is it is accessible to gearheads of all levels. Skill and rides vary on the track. And each event sees a wholly creative and exciting line up of rides. It isn’t as rigid as other motor sport events, and always attracts some of the most inspiring and clever purpose-built rides.
Driven and owned by Eric Fleming, the winning 2006 C6 Corvette has been modded for maximum performance. However, under the hood, Fleming is running a beastly, torquey 468ci V8.
Fleming competed in the Limited class. He was facing some major heat in a class that included a pair of Nissan GTRs, a Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE, a Honda S2000, other Corvettes, and more.
Going into the race, Fleming was ready to roar. And a bit humble.

Tires mounted, alignment checked, fueled up, loaded in the trailer, and ready to go turn a few laps this weekend with @globaltimeattack at @roadatlanta! #timeattack #trackcar #gspeed #hpr #centerforce #forgeline #samsonas #yokohama #a052 #motec #bosch #apracing #essexparts #raceramps . I’ll probably only turn a couple 1:40 laps 😬 #imslow #justhappytoberacingagain
Never underestimate a Corvette. The 2006 Z06 exceeded expectations by running 01:25.868, a new record for Limited class. And this beauty deserved it. Not only did it flaunt its savage horsepower, it handled like a dream. Big congrats to Fleming and his speed machine.

Global Time Attack has more racing action planned this summer and fall, be sure to check it out.
