C8 Corvette Stingray Pair

Popular YouTuber shares why these five commonly-noted C8 Corvette flaws are actually “genuinely impressive.”

Automotive enthusiasts, YouTuber, and engineer Jason Fenske posted a fun C8 Corvette flaws video over on his YouTube channel, Engineering Explained, today. Fenske not only has a C8 on loan from GM to review, but they also lent him that sweet cutaway-C8 that you probably all in all the hype leading up to the C8’s official launch. Fenske’s hot take? The five common complaints about the C8 were not only intentional but are, to him, genuinely impressive from an engineering perspective.

The discussion’s already heating up on the forums, so feel free to head over HERE, but here are the five flaws Fenske covers in his video.

KNS Brakes on a C8

Brake-By-Wire Systems Disconnect the Driver from the Road

The Complaint: Another technology where a computer is taking over for the driver. And what happens if your vehicle loses power?

The Engineering: Not only does the C8 brake-by-wire system provide braking even if the electronics fail, but it can even stop the Corvette when you’ve managed to BOIL your brake fluid with aggressive driving. Yeah, it’s true. On a conventional braking system, if you have moisture in your system and the fluid’s too hot, the moisture will turn to gases (the boiling) and, because you can’t compress gases as well as liquids, your pedal drops to the floor and you (possibly) crash. But with a brake-by-wire system, the electronic sensors know when you want more braking and will continue to pump fluid until your car actually stops.
