C8 Corvette: One Man’s Dream Car is Another’s Daily Beater
Exotic supercar owners really like the new C8 Corvette, but not quite the same ‘dream car’ way as the usual Corvette enthusiast.
The C8 Corvette remains one of the best performance bargain cars out there. Its attainability is what makes it legendary, and its ability to now poke supercars in the eye is downright pleasing. Still, for many of our members, the Corvette is a dream car unlocked after years of hard work. So when we came across a thread in Corvette Forum asking if Ferrari and Lamborghini owners were switching to the C8 Corvette based on its new engine location, we took a look. It was surprising, to say the least.
We know there was a lot of hype surrounding the C8, but as it turns out it has won over a number of supercar owners. Forum user Glenn Quagmire made some of his own points. They said, “I don’t cross shop Ferraris with vettes. I purchase what I like and they all scratch different itches. Appreciating cars is something I’ve done since I was a kid…and I don’t plan to change. Make no mistake, as an owner of several exotics, I can say Chevy did an amazing job on the C8!” This user’s white 488 and red C8 (above) are a great example of their point.
In fact, another user who goes by themonk stated: “if I could afford a nice Lambo (not a clapped out Chachi Gallardo) or Ferrari I would buy one but chances are if I could afford one I’d also have a C8 just for giggles.”
Thrills just aren’t part of the C8 compared to other supercars, at least to one forum user. SoCalC7 had high hopes for the C8 but the traditional engine just didn’t offer a soul-stirring experience compared to his orange Gallardo.
I was one of the first batch of C7 owners back in 2014, and enjoyed it for 6 years.
Was REALLY hoping the C8 would be something that felt “exotic” to me, and “stirred my soul” as a previous poster said.
It simply didn’t.
So I first bought a Gallardo, and drove that for 7 months.
My experience with that was so good that I recently upgraded to a unique 2017 Huracan 580-2.
I don’t give the C8 a second thought now. So very happy with the H. Lifetime achievement.
For some of our supercar-owner members, like C8Gator, the 2020 Corvette is an awesome daily for when they don’t feel comfortable driving their exotic.
I live too close to work and just have a hard time leaving my R8 in a restaurant parking lot. Bought the C8 to actually drive!
To which member Dr. ice. joked, “Everyone needs a beater.”
That said, while the C8 Z51 might not be up to the task, some are willing to let go of serious metal for a C8. ZEEEE06 is a forum user, and they have stated their 458, pictured above, is for sale pending the release of the C8 Corvette generation Z06.
So it seems that the C8 needs just a little more zest before it is truly in exotic dream car territory. When will it get that? One only has to look at the C8.R program to see the Corvette’s future.
