Most every automotive manufacturer creates concept cars, vehicles that are often viewed as far-fetched dreams. Sometimes they lead to production vehicles, while other times they simple fade into oblivion. Concept cars also range greatly in terms of feasibility. Many aren’t even capable of running and driving, while others are near production-ready. 1990 CERV III
The CERV III, based on the equally amazing Corvette Indy concept, debuted at the 1990 Detroit Auto Show. But what’s particularly impressive about this car is the fact that it still looks like something that could be produced today. When it arrived 30 years ago, it was clearly way ahead of its time in terms of styling, technology, and performance.
The CERV III was powered by a a twin-turbo LT5 V8 that produced 650 horsepower and 655 pound-feet of torque, and it could do 0-60 in the 3-second range on its way to a 220+ mph top speed. The carbon/kevlar-bodied Corvette concept was also pretty much production ready, but alas, its projected cost of $400,000 ultimately ended its chances at becoming a reality.
