Corvette E-Ray Production Hits New Highs Amid Slow Ramp Up

Corvette E-Ray production at Bowling Green has been ramping up very slowly, but there are some signs to be optimistic.

Lingering supply chain issues aside, we know that GM has been deliberate when it comes to slow-rolling C8 Corvette production in general, largely because it wants to make sure that the sports car doesn’t face any sort of issues once it reaches customer hands. While sports car production in general is low in terms of volume compared to most other kinds of vehicles, this is obviously frustrating for customers, yet, at the same time, reassuring. Thus far, Corvette E-Ray production has also ramped up quite slowly, but things are certainly starting to look up.

In fact, Corvette E-Ray production at Bowling Green hit new all-time highs last week, according to Roger Kiel of the C8 Corvette Owners (and Friends) Facebook page, who regularly posts his unofficial production tracker on that page. Earlier this month, GM churned out 35 E-Rays one week in total, which is the highest figure since production began, also setting a new daily record on Wednesday at 16 units. Things have been a bit all over the place, however, as just 14 were built on Thursday and Friday to close out the record-setting week.

This is great news for those still waiting on an E-Ray, as the ramp up for the first-ever electrified Corvette has been even slower than the coveted Z06, which was probably to be expected. Now in its fifth month of production, the E-Ray is lagging behind the Z06, which was enjoying numbers of around 40 per day at this point in the process. Regardless, there are other signs to be optimistic coming off a record week for Corvette E-Ray production.

According to Corvette Blogger, at least some dealers received only E-Ray allocations in the final ordering cycle of May, with a couple of those dealers getting multiple allocations for the hybrid. To date, those allocations have been rather hard to come by and, when they were handed out, were done so in single quantities. Regardless, as of now, the E-Ray remains a bit elusive, as GM has just 604 total units either built or scheduled for production as of April 1, but if nothing else, we have nowhere to go but up from here – and there are signs that things are already beginning to tilt in that direction.
