We’ll probably never have an official C8 Corvette Z06 Nurburgring time, but this attempt gives us clues as to what it might be.
GM has long been coy about certain things – one of them being certain Corvettes’ lap times at the Nurburgring. This is a bit strange given the fact that many manufacturers are more than happy to talk about these same results – often using them as a bragging point, in fact. Regardless, GM did once again take the C8 Corvette Z06 to the legendary ‘ring in Germany prior to its debut, with some spectators actually timing it, claiming that the prototype recorded a lap time of 7:12.64 – and that was while facing a bit of traffic. Recently, YouTuber Misha Charoudin got his chance to lap a C8 Corvette Z06 around the Nurburgring as well, and it once again posted a pretty impressive time.
Charoudin does tamper our expectations a bit by noting right up front that he faced considerable traffic during his own Nurburgring run, which is par for the course at the world-famous track. In fact, he can even narrow down his PDR footage to specific times when he had to slow down by a fair margin because of other cars in his way, which led to a lap time of around 7:23 from “bridge to gantry.” However, as he points out, there are multiple occasions where he had to shed between 30-40 kilometers per hour in certain corners due to the presence of other cars – meaning that the Z06 is capable of far more.
How quick that might have been is anyone’s guess – perhaps in the low 7:10 range with a professional driver behind the wheel. Charoudin theorizes that it could even beat a 992-generation Porsche 911 GT3 under perfect circumstances, perhaps capable of lapping the Nurburgring in under seven minutes, in fact – a pretty amazing feat if GM would take the time to pull it off, since shutting down the track for a day isn’t something we mere mortals can do – at least easily.
Ultimately, Charoudin walked away from this experience seriously impressed with the C8 Corvette Z06 as well – not only because of its extreme capability, but also, just how easy it is to drive, even at the limit. He sings the praises of the car’s aerodynamic stability and suspension – though he would actually prefer that the latter be a bit firmer – and even calls it more “emotional” than the 992 GT3 – high praise, indeed.
