Chevrolet Corvette Tire Review: Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 ZP
The Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 ZP (Zero Pressure) is a Max Performance Summer radial tire designed to be factory equipped for the 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1. The Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 ZP is designed to provide the best possible dry traction for the Vette ZR-1; one of the highest performing Corvettes ever offered. The Zero Pressure capability allows the car to be driven safely in the event of a total air pressure loss.
The Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 ZP is a pure performance tire, molding the
super soft rubber compound into an asymmetrical pattern with three
center ribs extending all the way around the tire to offer constant
road contact. This allows for improved acceleration, braking, and
cornering performance in dry conditions, and the wide longitudinal
grooves channel water away from the contact ribs to bolster wet
traction.
Inside of the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 ZP, the skeleton of the tire is
comprised of a pair of steel cord belts reinforced by spirally braided
polyamide, preventing tire surface distortion at high speeds and high
heat levels. The inner workings are then supported by a heavy duty
Rayon shell and Michelin’s zero pressure sidewall inserts. Unlike some
run-flat tires that are comprised of a harder compound of rubber, the
Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 ZP makes use of a softer rubber for better
grip and the reinforcement technology adds a high measure of security.
The Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 ZP tires range in price from $280-$530,
depending on the size of the tire, and these tires are designed to
offer race car-like handling for your Corvette ZR-1 in a street
friendly package.
