C8 Z06 Intake Dyno Battle: Eventuri vs JLT
Looking for the most power out of an aftermarket C8 Z06 Intake? This dyno battle declares a clear winner.
The C8 Z06 has been on the market for a while now and GM has delivered over 5,000 of them to date. So, naturally the aftermarket is beginning to produce more and more performance upgrade parts for the car. One of the most common upgrades on the Corvette, or just about any car for that matter, is an aftermarket intake. An aftermarket intake is designed to help the engine breathe better, and thus provide more power, and even a little better sound. But before you invest your hard-earned cash in one, it would be nice to know exactly what gains you should expect. Manufacturers can sometimes stretch the truth to sell their products. But a controlled dyno test will cut through any marketing nonsense and reveal the real numbers. So, in a C8 Z06 dyno battle, does the Eventuri or JLT offer more power?
Paragon Performance recently released a video on their YouTube channel showing a dyno battle of these two aftermarket C8 Z06 intakes. Now, sometimes even dyno results can be misleading as several different factors can impact the numbers. Temperature fluctuation is one of the variables that can skew a dyno run. But Paragon Performance uses a dyno cell with a controlled room temperature. They also monitor the air intake, coolant, oil and gearbox temperatures. They do back-to-back runs to establish a consistent power level and they monitor the car during the runs to make sure the timing curve, fuel curve and throttle position is consistent. It is about as good as you will get when comparing true power differences. So, which Z06 intake performed the best?
Stock C8 Z06
First, a baseline needs to be established. The bone stock C8 Z06 running 93 octane fuel was putting out 610 horsepower and 424 pound-feet of torque. However, beyond just max power figures you also have to look at how the power is delivered. What do the power and torque curves look like? The stock car has a few noticeable dips in power throughout the rev range. This is due to the intake manifold valves. GM has actually done a nice job ensuring a smooth power delivery with minimal drop-offs. How do the aftermarket units compare?
JLT Intake
With the JLT intake installed the C8 Z06 made more power than when it was stock. Horsepower went from 610 to 628 and torque went from 424 to 429. Those are not bad net gains. However, when you overlay the graph with the stock setup you notice that the power drop-offs are more noticeable. And to make matters worse, at some points in the rev range the power level actually drops below the stock setup. It is particularly noticeable right around 5,700 rpm. But once you hit 6,000 rpm the JLT makes more power all the way to redline.
Eventuri Intake
On the dyno the Eventuri intake showed strong gains over stock. Horsepower increased to 631 and torque increased to 438 pound-feet. However, the power dips were a bit more noticeable with the Eventuri compared to stock. Still the Eventuri unit provided more power and torque throughout just about the entire rev range. It beat out the JLT by a noticeable amount. So, based on the dyno graphs the Eventuri is the clear winner.

But there is another variable to consider which is not mentioned in the video. Price. The Eventuri intake will set you back roughly $2,500. It looks great and provides real power gains, but that is a pricey intake. The JLT you can get for a more reasonable $700. Now that you have the power numbers it is up to you to decide how much you want to spend.
