2011 Corvette Z06 Overview

The 2011 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is
back in very similar form to the previous year but an array of new
options can make the Z06 an even higher-performing sports car.  Like all
of the C6 Z06 Corvettes, the 2011 Z06 is powered by the 7.0L LS7 engine
offering 505 horsepower mated to a 6-speed manual transmission and as
has been the case since the Z06 was introduced, it comes only as a
coupe.  The research and development of the C6 Z06 took place mainly via
General Motors? race program and the Z06 is only a colorful paint and
decal job away from being ready for race day.

The 2011 Corvette Z06 is jammed full of alterations from the standard
Corvette right down to the frame and while GM made sure that the Z06
had plenty of power, they focused on reducing weight to give the Z06
racecar-like handling properties.  Unlike the steel framework used in
the other 2011 Corvettes, the Z06 features an aluminum alloy chassis
with a magnesium engine cradle ? both helping to vastly reduce vehicle
weight ? tipping the scales at just over 3,100lbs.

New for 2011, the Z06 can be ordered with the Magnetic Selective Ride
Control system from the Corvette ZR1 and for the first time, there is
an available trimline on the Z06.  The 2011 Z06 Carbon features a frenzy
of carbon fiber goodies, such as the hood, rockers and splitters
similar to those found on the ZR1.  Also borrowed from the big brother
ZR1, the 2011 Z06 Carbon comes with the massive carbon-ceramic brake
system, allowing braking performance unrivaled in the US market.  The
Z06 Carbon also comes with the expected additions inside to set it apart
from the standard 2011 Z06 but the production of this factory modified
Z06 is limited to just 500 units. 

For those who aren’t lucky enough to get their hands on one of the
2011 Z06 Carbon models, Chevrolet is offering the Z07 and CFZ packages. 
The Z07 package is available only as 2011 Z06s and it includes all of
the functional items from the Z06 Carbon like the enhanced cooling
system, Magnetic Selective Ride Control, carbon ceramic brake setup
including rotors, pads and calipers and the 19/20 inch wheels.  If you
are more interested in the fine lines of the 2011 Z06 Carbon than the
enhanced handling, the CFZ package is for you.  This option includes the
physical upgrades from the Z06 Carbon, including the front lower
splitter, the lower rocker panels, the lightweight roof panel and the
body colored rear spoiler similar to that found on the ZR1.

The 2011 Corvette Z06 comes with an MSRP of $74,305 and while there
doesn’t seem to be a definitive price on the Z06 Carbon, many speculate
that it will cost somewhere in the range of $90k.  The 2011 Z06-Z07
package will set you back around $9,500 and the CFZ appearance package
runs around $5,000 if you would rather go your own route to modifying
your 2011 Corvette Z06.
