Rumors of the next-generation C7 Chevrolet Corvette going mid-engine are not new, but U.K. car news publisher Autocar reports that new information suggests that just might be the case.
Whether or not this happens, the new Corvette will set its sights up-market on the top sports cars in the world. GM exec Mark Reuss said the next-gen sports car will be ?completely different? than the outgoing model.
Corvette Stingray Concept
GM sources say the next car will be designed to compete with the likes of Ferrari and Porsche on a global stage, something the 2011 C6 Corvette car falls short of in quality and refinement.
The revitalized Camaro has sold well enough to force Chevrolet to offer Corvette buyers with something more. This suggests a bonafide supercar Corvette, rather than the high-performance but low on refinement models on the market today.
The new car will be built at a renovated plant in Bowling Green, Kent. and will see a release date around Winter/Spring 2013 as a late-2013 model.
